The Eshcloghfin (Esh) Walk

Overview:

This walk mostly follows forest tracks starting on the opposite side of the road from a small parking bay just over 4km from the main trailhead at the Sliabh Beagh Hotel. Two noticeboards provide information on all four way-marked walks and on the geology of the mountain. You can also choose to walk a short loop of just over 3km.

Having reached a junction you can proceed around this longer loop in either direction. Up on the main part of the walk there are excellent views northwards towards Ballygawley and Aughnacloy. You will also catch site of the Penal Cross.   Local tradition has it that this is where a Fr McKenna was shot duing the penal era.
